The Dschang Council was the scene of a landmark event on Thursday 13 June 2024 for the sporting future of the city of Dschang, the Menoua Division and the Western Region. The Lord Mayor, Mr Jacquis Gabriel Kemleu, enthusiastically received a team from the Ministry of Sport and Physical Education (MINSEP), sent by the Minister, Pr Narcisse Mouelle Kombi. The purpose of the meeting was to initiate discussions on a potential partnership between MINSEP and the Dschang Council for the construction of the Tsinkop sports complex.

After a brief audience in his office, where the Lord Mayor highlighted Dschang’s assets, notably its population of 500,000 and its university character, which is conducive to the training of top-level sportsmen and women, he stressed the crucial importance of the future sports complex. This project, which is particularly close to his heart, is one of the town’s top priorities.

The Lord Mayor also informed the audience that the project is now in its second planimetry phase, demonstrating the significant progress that has been made. The site visit with the Minister’s emissaries highlighted the municipality’s commitment to this ambitious project.

Discussions focused on several key points:

– Collaboration arrangements for the development and construction of sports infrastructure.

– The establishment of a partnership framework between MINSEP and the Council to define the details of this collaboration.

– Sectoral decentralised cooperation and powers in the field of sports and physical education transferred to decentralised local authorities (CTD).

– The procedure for submitting and registering projects in MINSEP’s project database.

– The maturation and planning of sports infrastructure projects, including the elements of maturity and their various stages.

This initiative is a giant step towards realising a dream for the city of Dschang, that of becoming a nerve centre for sport in the region. With the support of MINSEP, the town of Dschang is preparing to take a new step in its sporting and community development.
